The Inclusion of Student-Selected Repertoire in Secondary Instrumental Programs

Laura Johnson is a second-year Master of Music Education (Conducting Concentration) student at Old Dominion University, anticipating graduation in May 2020. As a graduate assistant in the F. Ludwig Diehn School of Music, Laura has served as the graduate conductor for the ODU Wind Ensemble, ODU Symphonic Band, Monarch Marching Band, and Monarch Basketball Band. Laura studies conducting with Dr. Brian Diller and performs as a clarinetist in the ODU Wind Ensemble, ODU Symphony Orchestra, ODU Clarinet Choir, and the Virginia Wind Symphony. Laura also serves as the Assistant Conductor of the Bay Youth Wind Symphony under the guidance of Mr. Dennis Zeisler. She is a member of Women Band Directors International, CBDNA, NafME, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Kappa Kappa Psi. Laura received a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. She previously taught middle school band and general music in Sartell, Minnesota.
